THE WALKING DEAD OF INDONESIA
One of the most bizzare and horrific ritual called Ma'Nene, takes place each year in August in Toraja, Indonesia. In the ritual the dead bodies of the deceased are taken out of their graves, washed, groomed, dressed in new clothes and then those mummies are walked around the village.
The basic belief behind the festival is the belief that for the people who pass away, death is just a step into the oncoming spiritual life! This is also done because according to their belief, the spirit of a dead person must return to his/her village of origin. The family would go to that place along with the well groomed corpse and accompany the deceased back home by walking them back to the village, in a hope that their spirit will also follow them back home, to their graves.
